The I-64 Maury River Twin Bridges are delta frame bridges that were built in 1976. Saffo Contractors was awarded the project in 2021 to clean and paint both structures utilizing an SSPC Class 2A containment, approximately 170k SQFT of structural steel, that contained lead and other heavy metals. To access the structure, Saffo self-performed the MOT that was required coordinating lane closures with VDOT on a daily basis. For the underside access, Saffo built a Safespan cable-stayed bridge deck platform. Saffo applied a VDOT two coat system of an Epoxy Zinc Rich Primer and a Polysiloxane Top Coat.
