The Old Seven, as it is nicknamed, stands out in the Keys for two reasons — its history (it was once called the Eighth Wonder of the World) and the natural beauty you experience from it. Among the longest bridges in existence when it was built, it is part of the Overseas Highway in the Keys. The bridge project was part of a collaborative effort with FDOT, the City of Marathon, and Monroe County to help preserve the bridge for the next 50 years.
Saffo was awarded the project to help with the collaborative effort in preserving the bridge in 2017 for the surface prep and painting of over 600,000 sqft the structural steel and bridge repairs. Some of the expansive repairs Saffo performed included removal and replacement of existing structures, bridge deck repairs, expansion joint replacements, bolts/nuts/washers replacement, reinforcing steel and ERI injections. In 2022 Saffo Contractors finished the project and was able to open it back up to the general public for use.
